To me it feels much more natural to me than the flight model in SC.īoth SC and ED have a 'flight assist off' option (called decoupled mode in SC) which allows for lateral/vertical thrusting as well. I own both the ED standard beta and the SC dog fighting module. I am 10 times more excited for SC than ED but I will play ED no doubt. I only know what I have read and researched and what I have played in the combat missions. So there might be much more in a week I can say positive about ED. Keep in mind I only have the beta Combat Missions of ED. But on the flipside ED has concentrated on a PU and a much more modest ship collection, and neglected first person altogether.which means they have more playable content immediately availble to play. Though both talk about doing the same things SC is going to achieve these things sooner and in a quality fashion than ED. SC is chronically behind the devlopment curve, but they are developing much more simultaneously than ED. I am sorry but I know ED is saying they will also do a lot of this, but they are late to the party and I don't think they will beat SC on any of these fronts. SC will have robust trade and organizations. You can customize your avatar ala Skyrim or something similar. You can board ships, and fight for control on board. Team combat and flying on board ships together is a focus, also a first person shooter module is being developed to let people fight and explore that way. In SC you will walk around in the ships, it was an early goal, so that will be in the game soon, with giant motherships, frigates, and corvettes. They might have big plans for more ships but they are far behind SC as far as ship designs go. I am seeing very few ships in ED at the moment, the scope of ED at this time looks very limted as far as ships are concerned. They are all highly detailed, well though out, and really well designed. The result is I expect a much more detailed and populated handmade system(s) and less reliance on generated space.
Again others may differ on this, but SC really feels quality in regards to this.Īs far as scope goes, both games are going to have procedurally generated space, whereas ED seems to really be relying on it heavily altogether and SC was from the beginning going to be hand crafted only and then added in generated space as part of the game later. I really thing SC has it right on this, and I can kinda feel what every thurster seems to be doing to guide my ship.
It feels very real, as I twist and glide in space as my manuevering thrusters struggle to provide a simulated atmospheric flight model. It strikes a balance between function(atmospheric flight model) and space flight. I prefer the flight model of SC over ED as well. And for me personally that is much better. SC seems to have looked to real life examples of craft to make there ships seems believeable. I cannot stand the beam weapons in Elite(personal preference) also the guns on the ship seem a little silly, as they retract and kinda oddly. Sounds are more polished in Elite, but I don't like the direction they have taken with them entirely. Elite's looks very silly in to some extent, I can only fly one ship in Elite, in SC I can fly three ships. The graphics, artwork, and design in SC looks more realistic and feels immersive in the rift. I have Elite's combat mission (module) and SC's Dog Fighting (Module).
